      WOMAN SCRIBE

      Mayan women of high social position performed important roles such as priesthood. Knowledge was registered in bark-based paper covered with a thin stucco layer, over which signs were painted. This whistle female figurine bears a folded paper manuscript, her hairdo and jewelry indicate the probability of representing a woman priest. This is one of several examples of a Mayan sculptures found at the Jaina Island. HANDCRAFTED REPLICA USING ANCESTRAL TECNIQUES.
