Master rug weaver, José Ramón Vazquez, now 78 years of age, began his long career at the age of 8. The reason was part tradition. But more, it was about survival of the family. He was born in a poor village in rural southern Mexico during the Great Depression. For seven decades, Ramón not only survived, but became a master of his craft, famed throughout Mexico by those who treasure his rugs. He has worked with many different fibers, weaving with cotton, wool, jute and silk.
